What to expect from the 2021 CCA presidential elections?

Commonwealth of Central Archanta (CCA) will hold the presidential elections on 25 November 2021. Stephen Samin, Professor of Central Archantan Political Studies, University of Esperanza, explains why CCA president elections in late 2021 matter to the geopolitics of Archanta and what outcomes might tell us about the future of CCA.

George Nakumbaro is the current head of state of CCA since he conquers the 2011 Presidential Election with an overwhelming 73.32% votes. Nakumbaro became the head of the right-wing Democratic Nationalist Union Party (DNU) for five years before being elected to be the president. His popularity rises ever since a long time ago as one of the anti-apartheid movements to finally picked as the Governor of Port Lagbard in 2001. During the first reign, he inherited the previous leader’s economic stability and made it even more potent as between 2011 and 2016, the economic growth of CCA has increased 6.3% per annum. Nakumbaro has often spoken about the need to thrust down the nation’s bureaucracy and corruption to invite foreign investment. He always believes that investment is the key to their GDP growth.

After having a conducive administration, Nakumbaro announced in 2013 that he is enthusiastic about putting himself in the 2015 presidential election. During the 2015 presidential election, Nakumbaro was re-elected with the claims of 65% of the votes while competing against the opposition leader Alfred Zoknur Comte from Arkantaans Independent Congress (AIC), which was prisoned in 2017 after the Nakumbaro administration accused Comte of corruption and sex scandal.

In the more recent years of Nakumbaro’s rule, CCA has experienced democratic backsliding and corruption. Starting with the anti-government protests in 2014, his government imposed growing censorship on the press and social media. By 2013 itself, Nakumbaro has set 15 environmental and political activists in prison for setting up a demonstration that led to violence. A $100 billion corruption scandal in 2014 led to the arrests of Nakumbaro’s close allies and incriminated him. Nakumbaro also proceeded to abolish his opposition from judicial, bureaucratic and military positions. Nakumbaro’s rule has marked with increasing authoritarianism, censorship, environmental destruction, a massive growth of inequality and banning of dissent. Nakumbaro allied with the far-right parties and organizations to establish a capitalistic dictatorship. In 2019, Nakumbaro established an executive order to remove the term limit for presidential terms. The previous law stated that the maximum span for the president is only two terms which are about ten years in total. The executive order immediately got acceptance from the Judicial, which angers so many people and its opposition as they went into a violent protest in CCA notable cities like Port Lagbard and Bambusho.

President Nakumbaro and his government continue to press for court action against the remaining free press in CCA. The latest newspaper that seized is Kikumbalo Post in March 2020. After the seizure, FSA ambassadors to CCA condemned President Nakumbaro actions in the Federal States’ media, “Clearly, democracy cannot flourish under Nakumbaro now.”

Clearly, democracy cannot flourish under Nakumbaro

As CCA will hold the presidential election in November 2021, we can expect that Nakumbaro got strong support from the right-wing and nationalistic people still in the majority of the voters. The strong military and numerous successful missions to eradicate factions and separatists movements all over the country got Nakumbaro support from a lot of people that are tired of the disorder that is happening in the country. This mission was highly successful, that the number of terrorist attacks drops to 80% during his term. As expert claims, CCA will see more significant growth in its economy for the next ten years and claims that CCA will see drops in the democracy index as Nakumbaro still retaining his authoritarian term. We still do not know what Nakumbaro will do about the climate crisis happening worldwide, as he always ignores numerous destructive exploitation both for the environment and the worker. We can only expect the CCA’s future from its citizen if they’re willing to challenge the system to overthrow the destructive, unlawful and authoritarian government of President Nakumbaro.
