Kuehong “remains committed” to resist separatism in the Asperic, says Chairman in phone call with Suvuma

Bakdep – In an impromptu phone call this afternoon, Kuehong Chairman Ly Duc An has assured the Suvuman President that Kuehong is still committed to its relationship with the island country, just as reports leaked of Kuehong’s back deals with Goytakanyan militants.

“Given this is a matter important to national and regional security, I have organised efforts to investigate in this matter. Any corrupt officials involved in such deals are to be held responsible,” said the Chairman.

Last Thursday, Gobrassian news media publicised leaked papers revealing Kuehong’s arms deals with the Goytakanyans. The Suvuman Foreign Minister has issued a statement saying this was a “betrayal” of one of its closest “allies”, while Kuehong slammed the reports, insisting these papers were fabricated to destroy Kuehong’s international image.

After Suvuma’s independence from Ingerland in 1947, the ruling Goytakanos were forcefully removed from power during the First Suvuman Civil War. The Goytakano government fled to its native Goytakana Island and defended against the Suvu’s early invasions. Till today, Suvuma still claims self-ruled Goytakanya as an integral part of its territory.

Kuehong enjoys a close relationship with Suvuma since the military took power in 1967. The regime has commercial interests in the natural resources and lumber of the Suvumess forests, while Suvuma has regularly purchased arms from the country.

On the other hand, Kuehong has recently established unofficial relations with Goytakanya, due to its status as a trading hub. Kuehong businesses have begun setting up operations on the island, and the two exchanged economic liaison offices in 2004. In a rare high profile meeting in 2017, Kuehong sent a delegate to meet the Goytakanyan President to discuss security issues in the Asperic. Suvuma issued a complaint about the visit.
