Vang Ngat, KUEHONG – The Vang Ngat State High Command confirmed that they have removed the Vang Ngat Chief Minister Nguyễn Ngọc Thất this morning, and has also ordered the dissolution of the State Affairs Assembly. This comes after the Chief Minister and some prominent Assembly Members were alleged to have embezzled state funds and abused their power.
“It is regrettable to do this. However, we cannot tolerate these acts of corruption and, with the advice of the Federal Government and the National Security and Stability Council (NSSC), we have decided to remove the chief minister and also dissolve the legislature,” said in a statement from the High Command.
The now disgraced Chief Minister has said that the charges are ‘politically motivated’, and that he ‘only wanted extra lumps of sugar for his morning coffee’ if they were to ask about any discrepancies in office supplies expenditures. With the legislature now dissolved, it is unclear whether the State High Command will call for new state elections or resume taking control of the state affairs. A rally, in opposition to the Command’s decision, had already taken place in the streets of O-man calling for fresh elections and a fair investigation into the Chief Minister and his subordinates. His trial and hearing is set to be on 9 April.
This is not the first time the State Command of a state in Kuehong has used its powers to dissolve the state legislatures. While all state legislatures are fully-elected by the populace since 2003, they remain powerless with more power still centered on the state executives (known as State High Command), which has the power to veto any state legislation by the state government and even dissolve it if necessary, Often, the pro-democratic state legislatures in Kuehong often face dissolution over tramped-up reasons, with the Commands seldom launching new state elections for a new legislature.
