The opening of the Grand Imani Complex in Shahrezad, which includes a big mosque, and the first Imani Scholar University, also known as a Madrasah, since 1930, has been criticised by the Democratic People’s Party for showing off too much “power” and “unneeded”, they also claim it is a waste of the taxpayers money. The Aqay Trade Union, one of the biggest unions in Kushya, disagrees with the DPP’s claim.
“The Democratic People’s Party’s claim is absolute nonsense, as nearly half of the money used in the project was croudfunding and donations” Says the Chairman of the Aqay Trade Union, one of the biggest trade unions in Kushya. The DPP claims that most, if not all money was “just” a “waste” of the tax payers money.
The Imani Complex project started in 2012, where the Government in an agreement with the Shahrezad Municipality agreed to build the first Madrasah in Kushya since 1930.
Madrasahs, or Imani Universities, were closed since 1930, following Hamid Celal Pasha’s reforms in an effort to secularize Kushya. The Secularization Project was a forciful project, resulting in several bloodbaths, including the People’s Revolution in the 80’s carried out by Turgut (X)Hamdi, called a hero today.
The project was funded by including donations, including Imani charities directed towards the project, known as Sadaqa, and state money.
