Nrong Me, KUEHONG – Kuehongese local authorities have arrested Nplua Moua, along with his family, in a series of arrests against the Neegs this week. In addition, the offices of his own company Moua Properties and the company-funded independent news outlet Neeg Times offices have reportedly been raided.
His arrest is one of the most high-profile arrests made so far. Kue local authorities had in the past targeted high profile ethnic Neegs over allegations of ‘assisting their fellow insurgents’ in the region.
Local state media outlet the Kuehong National Gazette described him as an insurgency collaborator and supporting the publication of articles “instigating hatred, spreading rumours and smearing Trac Khe authorities and the National Security and Stability Council (NSSC).”
The recent crackdown was seen as a ‘routine purge’ in the days leading up to the country’s 53rd anniversary of military rule, which the Neegs, a minority group in Kuehong, had consistently largely resisted. The Neegs have faced oppression and persecution by the majority ethnic Kue, with reports of the military intimidating the Neegs and forcefully assimilating them into the regime.
The most belligerent of the Neegs had set up insurgency groups against the Kuehongese government in hopes of establishing an independent state for the Neegs. The insurgency had destabilised the region for decades, despite peace attempts by the Kue government and the insurgency groups.
The Federal States government has condemned the recent series of arrests and had threatened to bomb Kuehong with their air force. The Kuehongese government have often accused the Federal States and other governments for assisting the insurgents to destabilise the ‘peaceful, secure military society’ in Kuehong.
