St Richards – The Assembly of Nations Security Council voted to continue the AN peacekeeping mission on the Asperic islands of Iscu, despite opposition by many AN members.

The Bai Empire, a key member, has said that the AN occupation could not continue, saying that there are more pressing matters at hand. It has claimed that the now peaceful situation on the islands has allowed the natives to govern Iscu themselves.

However, the Federal States and Gobrassanya, the leading forces of the Iscu peacekeeping mission, have said the impoverished people are not able to stand for themselves, and have also requested for more assistance in governing the islets. There is general fear among many AN members, that the islands would fall into anarchy should the AN abandon its peacekeeping mission.

The Federal States have also urged fellow members not to fund “violent gangs” or engage in “criminal activities” on the islands. The delegation added that such activities have been disrupting the peace on the islands. The Khaiwoonese and Gobrassian delegations have added on by pointing blame on other states, including Kuehong. The military state denies backing the illict narcotics and arms trade in the Asperic.

The vote on whether to continue the mission comes as the appointment of a new commissioner and commission to oversee the island’s affairs approaches in 2022. There has been increasing calls for the end of the peacekeeping mission, but the Iscu commission stated that it could not “stand up on its own” without foreign aid, and has no wish for the island to be formally under another country.

The AN has administered the islets ever since Iscu fell into anarchy with protests ousting the former corrupt administration. However, without a new government, the AN was forced to intervene, with the joint backing of the Bai Empire, Gobrassanya, the Federal States, Latina and Freedemia. Many troops have withdrawn from the AN mission, with only the FSA and Gobrassanya maintaining its troops.
