Catamia – Social democratic Popular Party’s presidential nominee Aina Ferrandis is now the President of the Tarephian nation of Allendea, as her party secured the most seats in the Allendean parliament during the country’s general elections two months ago.

Ferrandis took her oath of office in a three-minute ceremony at the country’s Presidential Casa. After which, she made a speech thanking voters for their support and promised to implement the policies she and her party had campaigned for.

“Development and progress of our country is our top priority. I promise not to let my supporters down and work with various stakeholders to resolve the plaguing issues hindering our country’s progress.”

On her campaign trail, she had promised to address the costs of living in Allendea and tackle the country’s economic problems.

Despite garnering the most votes in the election, her party only won 31.4% of registered votes. The other 180 seats of the Allendean Cámara de Diputados are taken up by other parties including the Conservative Party of Allendea and the Green Party.

Two additional parties have joined the new government. The Party for the Advancement of the Capybara Hegemony (PACH), a satire party, has apparently resonated with young voters “fed up with the serious parties”.

The Socialist Party of Allendea (SPA), a neo-Doonist Party, has returned to parliament for the first time this century. It had previously secured seats during the 50s to the 70s, with some SPA members joining the cabinet, but lost relevance in the 80s following resignations and the emergence of the Green party. Some split away to form the Social Action party in the 90s. Most of their votes come from the urban areas of the country.

Nevertheless, Ferrandis promised that she would secure the confidence of other parties and hoped to work on areas with common ground, such as housing, infrastructure and transportation.

“We have a lot of work to do. I am confident that we have a common goal to improve the lives of many Allendeans. Let Allendea be another example of how democracy works well, with all voices heard.”
