Vang Ngat, KUEHONG – Rumours of a possible new early state election in Vang Ngat have been spreading around after the Vang Ngat State High Command announces the creation of the State Elections Review Board.
This comes after the High Command has dissolved the State Affairs Assembly over allegations that the parliamentary members, including the Chief Minister, are corrupt. Under the current state constitution, there has been no explicit need for an election for a new government as the High Command continues to rule over the state. Hence, the High Command usually continue to rule the state until the next round of state and nationwide elections, which are due in September 2021.
However, it seems the State Command has decided to push for state elections early in Vang Ngat. Upon the creation of an Elections Review Board, the process for setting up the next elections, such as the creation of electoral boundaries and the nomination of members, will take up to eight months.
Political observers, however, has cautioned against such speculations, as they say it is too early to tell whether they may hold state elections early. Professor Alembick of the Albedeer University of Gobrassanya said that it may make no difference, since the latest date upon the creation of the board may not differ much from the planned state and national elections.
Meanwhile, some of the former Assembly members said they are prepared for another state election, and hopes that the announcement will bring about positive political developments not only in Vang Ngat, but also for the other states and nationwide. They also hope that the new elections and the process will continue to be ‘fair and free’.
